Filling materials can be roughly categorized into two: permanent and absorbable filling materials. Permanent filling materials are limited in use since they have a high risk of complication compared to absorbable filling materials. Hydrogels containing polyacrylamide are great examples for permanent filling materials. Dr. Güray Yeşiladalı does not use permanent filling materials for aesthetic purposes except for the patients who have serious absence of tissue.

Collagen, poly-l-lactic acid and hyaluronic acid are examples of absorbable filling materials. When injected, these materials stay in the area where they are injected until absorbed by the body. They might be applied to the same area more than once. They are not allergenic and do not require an allergen test before application. They can be used with other facial rejuvenation methods such as B*t*x and ultherapy.

Hyaluronic acid is the most used filling material today. This material is one of the building blocks of skin. It can safely be applied to any part of your face or body. Depending on their chemical structures, hyaluronic acids varies in concentration. Therefore, you may need to use different types of hyaluronic acid depending on the area you want to fill.

Hyaluronic acid fillings last for 6 to 12 months with the desired outcome and after that period they completely disappear. Absorption of the material is faster in constantly-moving parts of the face.

Filling application lasts about 30 minutes. It does not require any kind of anesthesia. Local anesthetics might be used before the application if the patient has injection phobia. The filling immediately kicks in but it may last a week to see the final outcome.
