Nose Job - Rhinoplasty
What Is The Preoperative Process For Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty starts when the meeting is done and the patient is examined before the operation. Bone and cartilage structure of the nose, curvature in nose, the angle of forehead and lips with nose, the shape of the nose tip are of great importance. It is quite important to acknowledge the post-surgery expectations of the patient and to inform the patient clearly during the meeting.
Until one week before the rhinoplasty, the patient should not take aspirin or any other antiaggregants , should not drink herbal teas, should not smoke or should reduce smoking to 5 cigarettes per day and should not consume alcohol in the last 48 hours.
How Long Does The Operation Last?
Rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia or a combination of local and sedation anesthesia. The operation lasts about an hour and half. The duration of the operation might be longer if the nose is traumatized, clearly deformed or hard to shape.
Does Rhinoplasty Leave Permanent Scars On Skin?
We perform rhinoplasty through a close surgery method in which all the cutting and shaping are done inside of the nose. Therefore, it leaves no scar on the skin.
How Is The Post-Surgical Process?
Patients do not need to stay at the hospital after the operation. In the first 6 hours, patients may feel dullness and a dull ache which is responsive to painkillers. They may experience a slight swelling and cyanosis, but they fade within a week. Small silicon splints which are placed into the nostrils are removed after 2-5 days. Skin-color splints, which are placed to prevent the nose from swelling and to preserve the nose shape, are removed after 5-7 days. Patients who had rhinoplasty may return their work and daily life after a week.
It may last for 2 to 6 months for the nose to take its final shape and for all the edemas to pass.
The key to success in rhinoplasty is the controlled behavior. The outcome is always satisfactory if you pay respect to the tissues and shape the nose by removing a sufficient amount of tissue.
